This fall, the Minor Centres-project (http://minorcenters.gia-mediterranean.nl/) of the Groningen Institute of Archaeology (GIA, University of Groningen) organizes a five-week field campaign in the Pontine Plain (Lazio, Central Italy). Planned activities include three weeks of on-site surveys at the settlement of Forum Appii (a road station along the Via Appia) and extensive surveys in its territory (between 11 October and 1 November), preceded and followed by a week of artefact studies.

When: 4 October – 8 November 2014. Working weeks run from Monday to Saturday morning.

Accomodation: During the campaign we will take residence in hostel San Nicola at Sermoneta. Participants are responsible for making their own travel arrangements; accommodation and meals are offered by the project.

Number of participants: We have a restricted number of places available for students outside the GIA. The minimum period of participation is 2 weeks. To apply, send an email (with CV attached) to one of the directors of the project (Gijs Tol - g.w.tol at rug.nl or Tymon de Haas - t.c.a.de.haas at rug.nl) before the 15th of June. Shortly after this deadline we will inform all candidates if their application has been accepted and provide additional information.
