Sherd Density
DefinitionThe amount of potsherds (or other archaeological immobilia) within a spatial context (often expressed in the amount of sherds per 100 m.2, or per hectare). There are various ways to calculate this amount, most often this is simply done either by counting the sheer number of individual fragments within a survey unit, or by weighing them, but there are several more elaborate methods to estimate for example the number of individual pots. | |
